Normally I do not talk politics in this blog but this one really has me pissed off.
First let me say this is not a rant against the American people themselves, but rather against the idiots who are running their country. Today it was reported that the Government Accountability Office was able to smuggle duffel bags into the U.S. from Canada. According to the report, the bags cold have contained material to make a dirty bomb. This seems to be Canada's fault according to the GAO. They are complaining that we Canadians are lax with border security and terrorists could easily come in from Canada at these border crossings.
They are using the P.T. Barnum approach of you can fool some of the people some of the time and all of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time. The GAO thinks the American public must be stupid?Why?
BECAUSE WE DO NOT CONTROL ENTRY INTO THE U.S.A., THE AMERICAN CUSTOMS DO. WE CAN'T STOP WHAT IS GOING INTO AMERICA. THE U.S. HAS CONTROL OF THAT!!!!
Tell the idiots at the GAO to stop blaming Canada.

Well said Moose. I thought the same thing when I saw the news clip.
If the US is concerned about terrorists coming through the border then they can beef up their border patrol. Why is that our job?
And if Canada is concerned about guns coming from the US into Canada then we can beef up our border patrol.
I realize Blaming Canada is a favourite US government pastime but this sounds a lot like the time the US government blamed Canada for letting the 911 terrorists come through the border. First of all they did not come through the border from Canada. And secondly it's not up to Canada to screen people entering USA. That's why they have their own border and custom personnel.
And what about the big eastern blackout a few years ago where Canada got blamed for that? Big headlines, big news stories. Canada's fault. Then later when they got to the bottom of it they very quietly admitted it was Ohio, not Canada. Didn't see big headlines on THAT finding.
But I am also with you Moose, in that I am very attached to our American Blogging buddies. Love them. And Americans in general have had a very rough go of it over the past years. I support the people but the government officials really suck. (So do ours but that's for another post)

I also agree that it is not our blogging buddies or Americans in general, just this administration being paranoid.

Moose, we may live long enough to see a wall along the 49th parallel, or guards with guns pointed our way. It makes me so sad.
It will be interesting to see what's going to happen in the Arctic. I don't know if our Canadian Rangers can keep out all the riff raff. The Yanks will have to "help us".
Babzy: I they are going to help us, I hope we have a better administration than is there now.
I think as long as Chertoff is at Homeland Security, we will always be on his radar for no reason.
Moose, I gotta go along with you 100% here. What the govt here is saying about lax border security is an absolute joke - you can't expect other folks to ensure your own safety, plain and simple. Frankly, I think they are spouting a lot of feel-good, blame the other guy stuff just to appear as though they really give a damn. It's a joke, a very bad joke at that ... oh, don't get me going here - you know how I can get.

Thank God the Mad Hatter has only one more year in office. His wish list reads something like this:

Just Me: Let's hope it's not China. They are building one of the strongest militaries with modern equipment in he world.
As an American, moose, I offer my sincere apologies to all Canadians.
However, quit stealing the power from the East. No, wait a minute. Go ahead. Take it all. Maybe Washington will revert to swamp and forests.
For a while I was for impeaching our Prez, but when I thought of that Veep as President I changed my mind.
With Chertoff still in office, maybe y'all should keep those guns we're sending into your country.
And the phrase "border security", being applied to American efforts, just has to an oxymoron.

I thought Quebec supplied your power.
As for the guns, We don't have enough man power to register them, because you know according to the Liberals, NDP and Bloc, all criminals register their guns. It is the law abiding people who must be watched.
